Do Not Go To The Gym

Right guys, no pussy footing around here...

If your goal is to lose weight, lose body fat, get leaner, whatever you want to call it...

...Going to the gym 2-3 times per week is going to have very little effect on that!

The biggest bang for your buck is going to come from your life outside the gym...

- Your diet (the things you eat and drink, not atkins, paleo, etc).

- The amount you move WHEN YOU ARE NOT IN THE GYM.

- The amount you sleep at night.

If you do not attempt to address your potentially poor diet, you will not lose fat.

If you sit on your backside for 116 hours per week (168 hours in a week minus 3 hours gym time and 49 hours sleep, IF you sleep properly), you will not lose fat.

If you continue to have poor quality sleep, you will not lose fat.

Going to the gym 2 or 3 hours in a week will ONLY work when you make an effort to improve the other 165 hours in a week.

So am I saying don't go to the gym?

Hell no!

The gym has the potential to be extremely enjoyable and if you want to look great as you drop your body fat down then it's a must. Go to the gym to get stronger. Go to the gym to achieve great things you never thought your body was capable of.

But...

DO NOT go to the gym thinking it is going to solve all your problems. It will not.

YOU MUST attempt to make a difference outside the gym.

TRY THIS... It'll probably save you a few quid...

Before you join the gym:

- See if you can make some changes to your diet. For example, track your calories, reduce your portion sizes, limit booze to 1 night per week.

- Hit 10,000 steps everyday of the week (that includes Saturday and Sunday). No excuses.

- Improve your bedtime routine (no tech in the bedroom, no caffeine after 1200, read a book in bed).

If you can do one of those for a month without falling short then maybe, just maybe you stand a chance of losing body fat and that would be a good time to invest in a gym membership.

If you can't do one of the above for at least a month then I would argue that you just don't want it enough right now or you don't fully understand yourself why you want to lose fat.

This is not designed to be a negative post, just an honest view from a personal trainer that has coached 100's of ladies and gents just like you.

If the approach I've mentioned above sounds like a mountain to climb right now then don't worry, it does for most people. It can be done though. We have plenty of free resources available to you now that can help. Follow the link below to find these:
